My 100th post and the new get-to-know-Paris challenge!

February 27, 2012

This marks my 100th post on Paris Weekender!

Please help me celebrate by spreading the word about Paris Weekender! If you have not done so already, join our e-mail list to receive our newsletters! Visit and “Like” our Facebook page! And follow me on Twitter! And to say thank you, I am giving you a third weekly post!

The southeastern corner of the Jardin de Luxembourg

With every anniversary or landmark we reach, it is natural to reflect on how we got to where we are now. But it is also a time to think about “What next?” Hitting post #100 has made me think about how far Paris Weekender has come in the last ten months and where I would like it to be one, five and ten months from now. I have a number of ideas that I plan to see through over the next few months. The first is to add a third post each week, and hopefully one that will encourage you to get out and about and explore Paris even more!

The Northern Marais, 3rd arrondissement

Through this third post, scheduled for Fridays so it comes just before the weekend, I will invite you to participate in a get-to-know-Paris challenge. And don’t worry, if you are not in Paris, many of the challenges can be done in any part of the world!

I know, it’s not Friday, but I feel I should give you a warm-up challenge!  Here is Challenge #1 that you can do on your way to work:

Do you really know what street you live on?

Take a few minutes to learn about the street you live on. You can start by looking at the street sign itself. Most street signs, if named after a person, will list the profession and dates of birth and death of that person. Next, look carefully to see if there are any historic markers you had not noticed before. Did any famous people live on your street at some point? Did any notable events occur on your street? Finally, look up your street on Paris Rues! Paris Rues shares old photographs, addresses for shops and restaurants and historic tidbits for most of the streets of Paris.

Let me know what you discover!

If you live on rue de Seine in the 6th arrondissement, this challenge is not so difficult!

Stay tuned for the next get-to-know-Paris challenge this Friday!
