Over the Easter weekend, I took my first trip out of Paris since January. The initial idea was to visit Brittany. While our precise itinerary changed several times before the final iteration, in the end I managed to do a little of everything.
This trip combined spending time with expat friends, meeting new French friends and exploring new corners of Normandy and Brittany. The highlights of the trip? Certainly spending time with friends and meeting two wonderful families in Rennes and in Josselin.
We also met a wonderful maison d’hôte host, Sophie, in her Manoir de Coutainville and shared a gourmet dinner full of good conversation and laughter with Sophie and her three friends also visiting from Paris.
Another highlight was eating oysters along the water in Cancale, then watching the locals carrying their baskets of oysters up from the mud flats below before the tide came in.
I was happy to get back to one of my favorite towns in all of France, La Roche-Bernard, on the border of Morbihan and Loire-Atlantique.
And I was thrilled to explore more of Morbihan, including my new favorite spot, Saint-Cado, about 19 kilometers west of Auray. A walk along the coastal path (GR34) just before sunset was the perfect way to end my Easter Sunday.
I have posted my full itinerary under Weekend Itineraries. You may also consider combining bits and pieces of this itinerary with some of my others. For example, combine the Normandy leg with my Saint-Malo or Morlaix itinerary and combine the Brittany leg with my Gulf of Morbihan, my Eastern Morbihan/La Roche-Bernard or my Morlaix itinerary, or even with one of my Loire Valley itineraries. And be sure to read about my hike along Brittany’s southern coast, my trip to the Eastern Morbihan and my trip to the Loire Valley.
Mix and match away!
As always, I invite you to take a look at more of my photos from Northern France here, or view these photos in slideshow mode here.

I’m also planning more trips to Brittany in the coming months. Which are your favorite spots in Brittany? I’d love your advice!
